ONE WORD POEM

I thought that to write a poem was a good idea

But then I was overtaken by writers' fear

Should I make them laugh or make them weep?

Should it be light and fanciful or profound and deep?

What if it's so full of tedium and verbosity that it sends them all to sleep?

And should I use rhyme or blank verse knowing that for some a poem without rhyme

is like a police arrest without a crime

And should I spin a crafty tale, embroidering words with the dexterity of a

venetian glass blower or the power of a La Scala opera wonderfully sung:

Or should it be as sweet and blunt as a cumbrian tongue.

Attention please over there, you may not like it but others might

I may be a poet but I'm not afraid to go outside and fight

And should I write en francaise or en anglaise or peut etre un melange (that's

mixture for the linguistically challenged)?

But would my audience understand in French? Would they understand in English?

Would they understand at all?

So many questions but the page remains blank for if you thought this was the

poem you would be wrong.

In fact my poem is to come but will only be one word long.

One word yes but richly spoken full of meaning, subtlety and I think supremely

well chosen.

So hush now, hush now, let the poet speak.

. . . . . . . . .

Oh mon dieu this cannot be,

One word poem I have forgotten thee.

Shall I hide or shall I flee

What will the Tuesday friends think of me?

So sorry to those who thought I might produce a great poetic tome

But found I could not face the blank page down.

For me, I shall simply continue with my DIY at home.
