Often jobs are lost before the applicant has even applied
FITZROY GETS A JOB
The breakfast things were in the dishwasher, the paper had been delivered, a new pot of coffee was brewing, the man looked up and spoke to his spouse
Fitzroy got a job
Didn’t know he had applied for one
Oh yes, all done online
Has he got bear-friendly access
They cobbled some bits together they found in the playbox and hacked into a network. Bingo
Called it teddy.net
So, what’s the job
Well, is it:
A Toilet Attendant
B Clerical Assistant
C Fund Manager
I’m not playing silly games, just tell me
Well actually none of them
Sorry, apropos fund managers, do they still wear those bowler hats in the City
Yes, but now they keep their drugs in them
Did you take drugs when you worked in the City
Why do you think they fired me
What, for taking drugs, I thought…
No, for not taking drugs darling, ha ha ha (laughter shook the Mews)
Good he is able to laugh about it now, she though
Everything’s changing, London’s changed so much
Not in our Mews, not in our little corner of tranquillity and sanity. It will be a long time before we are swallowed up by change. Listen, I can almost hear the sounds of the horses on the cobble stones from yesteryear. Hear the shouts of the merchants advertising their wares in the nearby streets, the whistles of the bobbies chasing some villain
Oh I do like it when you get poetic, well, sometimes
Remember when you used to send me little rhymes
OK darling, have another gin, only joking, anyway Fitzroy has been fired
What already
Yep, some problem with his CV. Nasty little online spat and they ended up calling him a bear-faced liar
Oh he must be upset, he must need a hug, I must go to him
Not Fitzroy, he’s tough, I sometimes think he is stuffed with horsehair not kapok
But now you mention it he looked a bit subdued and wet round the eyes at breakfast
That was the little one, she practically hugged him to death
But does she understand what’s going on
No, but she knew something was up, burst into tears and Fitzroy was in the frontline. And what with the others, Fitz is all hugged out. Surprised he even made it to breakfast. Now, well he just wants to move on
The man picked up a paper, his spouse activated her android device, the kids were at school, and Fitzroy was resting.
Tranquillity returned to the Mews.
