Does it matter, blog anyway

Write the first thing that comes into your head

Just a thought…

So, back to writing books

It’s like running a marathon

Used to be unusual, now everyone is doing it

All lining up at the Amazon start line

Dressed up in an amazing array of themes and plots

The front runners, the professional runners, the elite

Setting off at the front

Soon out of sight

Their day finishes quickly, then it’s drinks with agents, publicists, and publishers

Next steps and film offers to consider

Could be flying off to attend literary festivals in Bali for all the rest of the field know

Is it like that, probably not

But you would need to become an elite writer to know for sure

So, back to the rest of the field

Slogging and blogging away

Some not even across the start line

Some a few miles in and it’s beginning to hurt

Each tap on the keyboard a massive effort

Some within reach of the finish line, only to be struck down by writer’s cramp

Or is it like a riding horse in the Grand National

Motoring along nicely, in the leading bunch

Only to be brought down by a stray horse

Doesn’t matter, just get it done, get your book into virtual print

Then look in the mirror

See the jubilation of the marathon finisher

But knowing, for many, this is short lived

As before even the pain has subsided

Thoughts turn to the next Herculean endeavour…
